Chapter 732

A soft smile hung on Caroline’s lips. She knew fairly well what Gwen was trying to say.

“I asked Eddy’s second uncle about it that day,” Caroline said, speaking into the phone with her back against the railing.

She turned to look at Kirk. She wasn’t sure what he was doing, but she could see that his brows were furrowed slightly. Under the soft light, he seemed less stern and more approachable than before. NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

“He said he supported me only because I have a knack for business,” replied Caroline.

“You’re too naive. There are lots of others who have a knack for business, too. How come you were the one to catch his eye? You’d better watch out. Especially since he’s helped you this time.”

Gwen continued, “He’s a part of Collins Group now, and you’ll have to keep an eye out in case he

talks about it.”

Caroline fell silent as she considered Gwen’s words. “Don’t worry about me, Gwen. I know what I’m

doing.”

“I don’t have to worry about you,” Gwen told her.

“I know you like the back of my hand. It’s that guy I’m wary of. I’m afraid …”

Caroline smiled and said, “I’m a married woman now. Even if he truly has feelings for me, he can’t

just do anything as he wishes, right?”

Gwen giggled. “Nothing is certain. Just be careful. I don’t believe that a man would be kind to a

woman for no reason at all. He must have a hidden agenda.”

“I understand.” Caroline nodded in understanding.

“Okay then. I’m hanging up.”

Caroline heard the splashing of water from the other end of the line and could somewhat guess

what was going on on Gwen’s side. Smiling, she said, “Alright. Goodnight.”

After their call ended, Caroline raised her eyes to look at Kirk, who seemed to be especially busy

with whatever he was doing. The frown was still stuck on his face.

She tiptoed toward him and whispered, “Honey

Her soft voice was like an antidote that made Kirk forget all of his worries. No longer as tense, he reached out to hook an arm around her waist.

“Yes, darling?” said Kirk. Before he could say anything else, she took the initiative to kiss him, stopping him from uttering another word.

Time passed like the ebbing of the tide at night.

Silence filled the air in the private room at Gourmet Manor after the bank made the

announcement. Not a single person spoke. None of them had expected Caroline to emerge victorious.

Suddenly, the bottle of red wine in Layla’s hands cracked, and she let it fall to the ground. The sound of it shattering snapped everyone out of their daze.

The people around Layla wore different expressions as they stared at her now.

“No way! That’s impossible!” She smashed anything and everything around her as if she had gone insane.

She abruptly stood up, grabbed someone by the arm, and snapped, “Tell me that everything I saw just now wasn’t real! Tell me that it’s all fake!”

She shook the person repeatedly with so much force that he almost puked from how nauseous it made him feel. He couldn’t utter a single word anymore.

The people surrounding Layla were so horrified that they staggered backward in horror.

“Tell me!” Layla screamed in his face, her voice piercing the air in the room like a sharp and terrifying blade.

A moment later, the person whose arm she was grabbing couldn’t take it anymore. He patted her arm and said, “Ms. Layla, snap out of it. It’s just Collins Group. The Morrisons would still support you.”

“Maybe the bank made a mistake,” he added.

“You should give them a call and ask them about it.”

His words snapped Layla back into reality, and she hastily took her phone out to call Mr. Donovan.
