Chapter 272
Chapter 272
“Guess I’ll head over then.”
Sandra set down her wine glass and swayed over to the handsome guy’s table. Just her luck, he stood up and headed to the restroom. Talk about a letdown!
With nothing better to do, Sandra plopped down in his seat to wait for Mr. Dreamy’s return.
Inside the restroom.
Nathan Thomas was on his phone, urgency in his voice. “Code red! Howard, your wife’s drinking at the bar! Get here stut! In the last ten minutes, at least three or four guys have hit on her and she’s knocking them back pretty good!” Gwendolyn usually had a bodyguard with her, but she wasn’t having it tonight, so they were dismissed.
After hanging up, Nathan loosened his tie. He’d hoped for a bit of post–work excitement, but bumping into Gwendolyn at a bar? That was like hitting the jackpot!
Once he’d collected himself, Nathan stepped out of the restroom, only to find his seat taken by the same girl who’d been hanging out with Gwendolyn.
They’d crossed paths at the hospital once, but the encounter hadn’t left much of an impression.
“Hey there, handsome. Mind sharing your number?” Sandra looked up at him with a hopeful smile.
Nathan feigned indifference. I’m an old–fashioned guy. I don’t just give my number to any girl.”
Sandra’s admiration grew. She found him familiar and asked, “Have we met before?”
Noticing that she didn’t recognize him, Nathan decided to tease her a bit, “Isn’t your pick–up line a tad clichéd?”
Stung by his cool demeanor, Sandra slumped back to the booth and walled into Gwendolyn’s arms, “He didn’t give me an inch! Why does he keep looking over here then?”
Gwendolyn glanced over and locked eyes with Nathan’s profile.
“Nathan?”
“Hey Gwendolyn, what a coincidence, Nathan said with a mock suave stroll over to their table.
Gwendolyn, holding a drink, slurred her words. “Nathan, why didn’t you give Sandra your number?
She was clearly drunk but still hanging onto consciousness.
Sandra was gobsmacked. “That’s Nathan? The guy who brings you those McCormick trinkets?
Nathan pointed to the pristine nurse and asked, “And she’s the Sandra who sends you flash drives and cheeky nurse outfits?”
Gwendolyn nodded dutifully. “Yeah. You guys always send the weirdest things…”
She let out a soft burp, her breath reeking of alcohol.
Nathan and Sandra shared a knowing look, the irony clear in their eyes. Unaware of the underlying tension, Gwendolyn pulled them both to sit and eagerly encouraged, “Come on, join me for a drink.”
Nathan tried to be the voice of reason. “Maybe you should slow down a bit.”
But Gwendolyn just pouted, Tm just having fun.”
Alcohol had a way of making troubles disappear and inhibitions loosen.
Suddenly, the stage lights zeroed in on Gwendolyn, causing her to squint.
Then a young man’s voice rang out from the speakers: “This next song goes out to the girl in the white dress at table twelve
Gwendolyn was dazed, slow on the uptake.
The band’s frontman, ruggedly handsome, microphone in hand, made his way toward her with a seductive voice. His eyes, full of romance, were fixed on her.
Under the spotlight, he approached, extending a hand, inviting her, “Can I have your number?”
Gwendolyn looked at him, trying to focus. “L., don’t know you”
“After tonight, you will it was love at first sight for me.”
Love at first sight? Men and their sweet nothings!
Nathan reached out to intervene, but the bar crowd was too much, cheering for a romantic encounter between Gwendolyn and the lead singer.
Frowning. Gwendolyn said, “I’m married.”

“You’re so young, how’d you manage to snag a husband?” the singer shot back. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
Gwendolyn staggered slightly, pointing her pale finger toward the bar entrance. “Look, my husband’s here.”
