Sam tried to stop the housekeeper, Mr. Cooper, but it was too late.
Mia had already stepped out of the car after overhearing his words. She had a sinking feeling that it was Jenna's appearance that had caused Mr. Jasper Sr. to faint.
She had warned Hunter before, but he hadn't believed her.
Now that Mr. Jasper Sr. had collapsed from anger, Mia wondered how Hunter was feeling. Or maybe he didn't feel anything at all. After all, apart from Jenna, he seemed indifferent to everyone.
Mr. Cooper's eyes lit up when he saw Mia, and his voice rose in urgency. "Mrs. Mia Jasper, please, come quickly!"
Mia quickened her pace. "Did you call the family doctor?"
"I did, but-it'll be at least twenty minutes before he arrives."
"Have you opened the windows for ventilation?"
"They're all open," Mr. Cooper assured her.
Mia pressed her lips together and hurried inside. As soon as she entered the hallway, Jenna's soft sobbing reached her ears.
Mia frowned and whispered, "Mr. Cooper, please ask Jenna to rest in her room. She shouldn't be disturbing Grandpa."
After all, it was Jenna who had caused Mr. Jasper Sr. to faint, and now she was putting on a show by crying here. It was irritating. "Right away!" Mr. Cooper hurried forward.
Mia stepped inside and swapped her shoes for house slippers. Meanwhile, Mr. Cooper approached Jenna and spoke in a low voice. "Mrs. Jenna Jasper, you must be tired. Let me take you back to your room to rest."
Mr. Cooper had never been fond of Jenna. Her overly fragile demeanor and tendency to burst into tears irritated him.
As Jenna noticed Mia walking gracefully through the door, her beauty catching everyone's attention, she bit her lip and glanced up at Hunter.
Seeing him watching Mia as well sparked a pang of jealousy in Jenna's heart. In a voice full of feigned guilt, she said, "It's all my fault that Grandpa passed out, I'll leave now."
She spoke of leaving but made no move to stand.
Mr. Cooper felt uncomfortable with the situation, but didn't dare push her.
Hunter frowned, his tone soft as he said, "Go upstairs and rest. You can come down when Grandpa wakes -up."
Jenna obediently stood up, but in the next moment, she wobbled backward, letting out a startled cry. Hunter, help me!"
Hunter rushed over to catch her, his brows furrowed in concern. "You're so careless!"
"I sat too long, and my legs went numb," she murmured, wrapping her arms around his neck. "You can put me down now."
Mr. Cooper discreetly looked away. "As brother and sister-in-law, isn't it risky for them to be this cl Aren't they worried about what people will say? What's the world coming to?" he muttered to himself.
"T'll take you upstairs," Hunter said, but as he turned, he saw Mia standing behind him. His expression immediately turned cold. "Why do you walk so quietly?"
Mia stepped aside, clearing the way. "It's because your mind was elsewhere, so you didn't hear meContent (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
coming."
In the past, seeing a scene like this would have made Mia furious. She might have even demanded Hunter put Jenna down. But now, with divorce on her mind, even though it hurt, she knew she had no right to interfere. "Mia, don't misunderstand. I nearly fell because my foot went numb. Hunter just helped me." Jenna quickly explained, acting like she worried Mia might be upset.
Mia narrowed her beautiful eyes slightly, a faint smile playing at the corners of her lips. "I didn't misunderstand, and there's no need to explain. Whatever's between you is your business."
Her voice was soft, as if she were casually talking about the weather.
Jenna was momentarily stunned. She had expected Mia to be angry, but instead, Mia remained calm and spoke so lightly.
Had Mia's attitude really changed? Or was she just putting on an act because Mr. Jasper Sr. had woken up?
