Chapter 918
Katie stood there, feeling so embarrassed that she wished she could just disappear. Especially since Carolyn had stopped treating her as kindly as before ever since they had their falling out. Before, Carolyn would always pull strings for her and those investors would give her a little bit of respect because of Carolyn's influence.
But now... she realized that Kareem was completely unreliable. She couldn't believe that she used to trust his words and think that Carolyn really didn't like her, looked down on her, and had ulterior motives towards her.
When she really did have a falling out with Carolyn, Katie was dumbfounded. All those promises Kareem made to take care of her, make the Mcguire family support her more and make the company favor her were all lies.
If it wasn't for Carolyn lending a hand in helping Katie navigate through the entertainment industry before this point in time, there's no way Katie could have achieved what she has today - all these resources and status? It'd be nothing but a pipe dream!
This time around when filming this web drama series where Katie managed to snag the female lead role by pushing aside the original actress with some private funds from herself (which caused quite some pain), it was all thanks to her sister-in-law Carolyn who paved the way for everything.
Now that they've fallen out though, Carolyn doesn't even acknowledge or help Katie anymore. Even something as simple as asking Kareem to book them a VIP room is too much trouble for him now; let alone anything else he promised before.
Katie is at loss for words right now; Kareem isn't nearly as good-hearted or helpful as she thought he'd be. Past-Katie was truly blinded by his lies. She believed him back then but wants nothing more than to turn back time now... but it's already too late.
Especially since his father's health is deteriorating day by day while most of their family power has been handed over into Carolyn's hands. Although Katie knows one thing clearly. Kareem used her like an expendable pawn while also being at odds with big sister-in-law.
However, she doesn't have any chance left at redemption anymore.
She can sing and dance well enough while acting in web dramas but managing companies? That's more laughable than absurdity itself!
If she leaves home, then what will happen? Her heart fills up with panic yet again; however, there seems no solution available.
Especially when big brother still hasn't come back from being detained yet... if he comes back though, maybe if | pout cutely enough, | might get some extra pocket money or ask him nicely about other things...
But right now... The more she thinks about it all, the sadder she was. Yet here she stands inside this VIP room, caught between two worlds without any escape route available whatsoever.
If she could marry Brayden, even though the Wright family wasn't a prestigious family, Cody had the ability to make it big in Urgford.
If she became a daughter-in-law of the Wright family, then she would also have made it big. But why was everything not going her way?
Jenna was always hanging out with Brayden and it made her uncomfortable.
But all she could do was stand here awkwardly holding her drink.
Her forced smile looked uglier than crying.
Jasper occasionally kept in touch with his sister Carolyn and knew about the Mcguire family's dirty laundry. Seeing Katie show up in the private room, he quickly flashed a hint of disgust in his eyes.
This brainless idiot had some nerve coming over here!
Brayden coldly glanced at Katie. She wore tight leather vest and shorts, exaggerated large hoop earrings on her ears, tied up high ponytail to flaunt her figure and long legs intentionally. However, her dressing style that considered herself hot stuff looked like an idiot to others; from head to toe exuded a strong rural vibe.
Unaware of how unconventional she appeared with this rural vibe look; steadied herself mentally before walking towards Brayden, "Mr. Wright, | heard Miss Shepherd won an award at Graley Piano Competition. Can | invite her to help us write songs for our drama? Maybe write opening or ending theme song?"
She tried to get close.
Brayden raised his eyelids slightly and gave Katie one glance, "She's busy."
Katie smiled thick-skinned, "It doesn't matter, then I'll invite someone else."This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
As she spoke, she wanted to pour wine into Brayden's cup. "Can't we drink together if writing songs is impossible?" She poured him and Jenna some wine.
Brayden couldn't be bothered with her anymore; he just wanted her gone as soon as possible.
He held Jenna's hand who was about to pick up the glass, and put it down instead. Then he picked up Jenna's glass himself, "She can't drink, I'll drink for both of us."
As he spoke, he directly drank both glasses himself.
Jenna stared blankly at Brayden, while his warm palm held onto hers, warm, hot, and scorching hot.
The private room was lively, but all Jenna could hear was the sound of heartbeats thumping loudly inside herself. Seeing what Braydon did, Katie turned pale but quickly regained composure.
After finishing the drink in her cup and glancing at the others in the private room, Sylvia stood up before Katie could say anything. "Let's all raise a glass together," she said.
Katie was dumbfounded. She had never heard of this kind of toast where everyone raised their glasses together. It wasn't like at a regular wedding or baby shower, where there were too many guests and time was limited, so the host would have everyone raise their glasses together.
Why were they doing this at a KTV? Did they look down on her? Were they not willing to drink with her?
Katie felt suffocated and uncomfortable. But by then, everyone had already picked up their glasses and raised them towards her before drinking without even touching hers!
This was an obvious insult and mockery. Fuming with anger, Katie finished her drink and turned to leave while giving Sylvia a sideways glance. "What a bitch!"
As she stormed out, she couldn't help but turn back to Brayden. "Mr. Wright, Miss Shepherd, it's rare for us to run into each other here at Larro. Would you be able to visit our set tomorrow?"
"Sorry, we don't have time," Brayden refused bluntly. With an angry slam of the door behind her, Sylvia found it amusing. "She's such a princess." "She's got quite an attitude," Brayden added with disdain.
Jasper looked equally cold as he spoke, "My brother-in-law is still being held captive while my sister tries everything possible to get him out, even going as far as worrying herself sick over it! And yet the Mcguire family people are still laughing like nothing happened, as if my brother-in-law isn't even named Mcguire."
"They're just after that dirty money; your sister is just another one of their high-end workers who'll be fighting over inheritance when the time comes, along with Kareem and Presley Alondra," Sylvia spoke coolly with contempt lacing every word.
Right now Carolyn Mcguire is holding everything together for that family..."
“My sister married into that family, thinking she'd be helping them out of poverty..." Jasper seethed as he gripped Evie's hand tightly. "Don't worry though; | won't let you marry into poverty."
Evie blushed slightly as she tried shaking his hand off. "Who said | wanted to marry you?"
Jasper grew more agitated. "If not me, then who else would you want to marry? Let me tell you something; there's no way you're getting away from me in this lifetime!"
In front of so many people, Evie's face turned even redder. "You... you stop talking nonsense."
Sylvia chuckled, finding it quite amusing.
Evie has a round face and big, round eyes that give her an incredibly cute expression. Jasper felt more and more joyful as he looked at her, "I'm just talking nonsense to you." The more embarrassed Evie gets, the happier he becomes.
Everyone burst into laughter.
Franklin raised an eyebrow and glanced at Brayden, "How did you come back?"
Brayden took a sip of water and then handed Jenna a glass of juice, saying, "Your household registration is here, so naturally you have to come back to get your certificate.”
So it seems like everyone is getting married and getting their marriage certificates, huh? Franklin was feeling extremely sour. Why is it that when it's his turn to get his license, everything goes wrong and there are all sorts of problems?
He leaned closer to Sylvia, his deep-set eyes sparkling with a different light. "How about tomorrow we go and get our marriage certificate too?"
Sylvia laughed again, looking at his eager expression, and nodded. "Okay!" Everyone starts playing the game, and whoever loses has to sing a song.
Sylvia is not afraid of singing, dancing, or anything like that. However, the surprising result was that Franklin lost instead of anyone else.

"The Season of Wind" is an old song that was popularized by a female singer in the 1910s.
Sylvia didn’t expect Franklin to sing this kind of song.
This is her first time hearing Franklin sing, and she didn't expect him to sing so well.
In the second round, Mollie lost but she didn't hesitate and sang a military song directly.
"The heroines among women are different, they all sing the songs of the team," Sylvia teased her.
Mollie blushed and said, "I... |am going to be your future aunt-j olua How dare Qu rakeltan ot rne? Just aes how | will gossip about you to your uncle in the future." Please read the original content at NovelDrama.Org.
“Haha, you're already preparing to show off before marrying into the Hipps family?" Sylvia continued teasing, making Mollie blush. "Clare, control your little niece."
They played until late into the night before leaving and going home.
