A Night's Mistake: The Besotted CEO's Obsession

Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Jeffrey’s face lost all color when he realized who Cynthia was. David, the Sullivan patriarch, had only one descendant left–his grandson Liam Liam’s parents had died in a tragic car crash when he was young. The idea that Cynthia was Liam’s wife sent a shock of terror through Jeffrey. He wished he could take back his out–of–line comments about her.

Liam, leading the Sullivan family, was straight–shooting and not the kind to show mercy. He was super protective of his loved ones. If Liam ever heard the way Jeffrey dissed his wife, Jeffrey was toast.

Seeing Jeffrey so scared, David felt kind of sorry for him. He gave Jeffrey’s shoulder a reassuring par. “Kid, you away from folks with bad vibes; they’ll drag you into a mess. Since you didn’t know today. Fleur you some slack and keep it from Liam

better get sharper about folk. Stay

David also knew Liam’s temper and wasn’t keen on starting a family feud.

“Cymbia, come here, David d called her over and then nodded at Jeffrey. “Let’s do this properly. Come meet Cynthia. She’s your uncle’s wife”

That made Jeffrey’s face change from scared to super embarrassed. He realized Cynthia, the country girl he’d looked down on, could have been his girl if it hasn’t been for Roseanne. Now, she outranked him

Jeffrey hesitated, the words stuck.

David gave a sharp cough to push him.

“Aunt Cynthia,” Jeffrey spat out through gritted teeth.

“Mm, good boy, Cynthia replied, her voice playful and eyebrows raised.

“All right, you may go now, David said, after getting the answer he wanted.

Jeffrey walked away, feeling small and embarrassed.

After the troublemakers left, David proposed that Cynthia should stay a few more days at the Sullivan residence. Jasmine eagerly nodded in

agreement.

Although Cynthia found it hard to say no, the thought of her empty wallet forced her to toughen up and decline. After all, her twentieth birthday was just around the corner, and she needed to find a way to reclaim her mother’s shares. Even with a will backing her claim. Mason wouldn’t hand over the shares without a fight, which meant she’d inevitably need a lawyer, and that was going to cost a pretty penny. So for now, she had to hustle. Darian drove Cynthia back to Regalian Garden.

Back in the day, when she lived near the border, Cynthia could handle any ride, from fast cars to tough off–roaders. She never planned to come Lack home, so she never bothered with getting a driver’s license. Now, depending on others for rides wasn’t cutting it. It looked like it was time for her to take that driving test.

Mason and Felicia got dragged a long way from the Sullivan residence and dumped on the ground like yesterday’s trash. They were steaming with anger but didn’t dare to make a fuss, so they just sucked it up.

After the guards made sure Mason and Felicia were far enough away, they split. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

The Sullivan residence was out in the middle of nowhere, hardly any cars or anything. Mason had driven there, but his car was back at the house and there was no way he was going back for it, so they had to hoof in toward the city.

Felicia, all dolled up in her high heels, was not having it. Fancy living hadn’t trained her for this kind of trek. Pretty soon, her feet were screaming. covered in blisters. She plopped down at the side of the road and gave up. “Mason, I can’t walk one more step

Mason shot her a look filled with fury but they both stopped moving. “No wonder we were turned down. How on earth did Cynthia worm her way into the Sullivan family?”

“What did David call her? His granddaughter–in–law!” Mason racked his brain about what went down earlier.

Felicia scrunched up her face, remembering. “Does he have another grandson except Liam?”

Felicia couldn’t believe that a simple country girl could snag someone like Liam Sullivan, who didn’t even bother looking at her Roseanne. Thinking it all over. Mason felt like something didn’t add up. It hit him that David only had one grandson, Liam, the current head of the Sullivan family

“How the hell did the snag Lian?” Mason was not happy for his own daughter at all, and more than that, a worry started to nag at him. With Cynthia barked by the Sullivan family, grabbing those company shares would be a sap for her. The thought of letting go of the business he’d built from the ground up was unbearable.

Felicia a caught on to the situation and started talking about this with him.

“Sure, David and Jasmine seemed sweet on her, but that doesn’t mean Liam’s sold,” the pointed out “The whole town knows he’s been grieving for his son and pushing Liam to settle down and

have kids. Maybe Cynthia’s just a pawn in that game.”

“Exactly.” Mason agreed loudly. “A big shot like Liam seen a ton of beauties. No way he’d fall for some random country gal.”

Felicia suddenly offered, “Honey, I’ve got an idea. If Cynthia’s with Liam now, let’s play nice and use that to wiggle into the Sullivan family’s good graces. It’s good for business, and it’ll give Roseanne a shot at Liam. If she wins him over, who cares about some old folks darling! Without their backing, getting those shares back will be a piece of cake

Mason liked the idea but was a tad hesitant. “Jeffrey’s already set to marry Roseanne, though.”

Felicia flashed a sly look. “Come on Jeffrey’s just a branch on the Sullivan tree–no clout. Marrying him is a dead end. But Liam! Marrying him is hitting the jackpot–he’s the head.”

Mason was sold on the argument and nodded. “Alright, but let’s keep this quiet from Jeffrey for now,”

“Of course.”

With that, they were on the same page.

Cynthia was hunched over her laptop that late afternoon, trying to figure out a fast track to fatten her bank account. Suddenly, a new window caught her eye–a contest for jewelry design.

She zipped through the details. The Stonebridge Group was hosting it, and it wasn’t just any contest–the prize was 300 thousand dollars plus a fancy certificate. There were a few rounds to get through: prelims, semis, and the big show, the final. Design lovers from all over could throw their hats in the ring Cynthia didn’t blink twice, she sent in her application pronto.

When Cynthia set her sights on a goal, she got moving quickly. She spent that whole afternoon locked in her room, pencil in hand, sketching her first design ideas.

She had done her research: Stonebridge Group was a big deal, almost as powerful as Sullivan Group in Clusia.
