Chapter 501: Aren't You Afraid That I'm a Bad Person?
Chace is lost for words.
At first, he thinks it is a joke. So, he waves his hand in front of her and even makes a mock charge.
She doesn't even blink when Chace's fist is an inch away her face.
Knowing she is blind, Chace goes out for a doctor.
Jessie hears the door close and everything around her becomes quiet. She starts to panic somehow.
Her world is completely dark. She can't see anything.
She can do nothing but to hold on tightly to the blanket.
She is sorted out in a neighborhood in Country Y, and there's a servant to take care of her.
But a few days later, several men barge in.
They kill the servant in front of her and knock her down before she can do anything.
When she wakes up, she can't see a thing.
These men want to assault her, but she fights violently. So, they kick her and even whip her, saying that
they will send her somewhere.
She waits and waits until she is sure she is alone, and she stumbles her way out leaning on a wall.
At last, she makes her way out, for those men won't believe a blind person can do so.
She doesn't know where she is, but she hears someone talking. So, she asks them where the police NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
station is, but only finds out they are a bunch of hooligans.
Luckily Chace sees her and saves her from danger.
Otherwise, she can't believe what will happen to her.
When Jessie's mind wanders carelessly, the door opens and some men are talking.
"There seems to be something wrong with her eyes."
A doctor comes over and runs some tests about her eyes.
Then he asks, "Have your eyes been burned recently, or have you hit your head somewhere?"
"No," Jessie grabs the blanket tightly and answers, "When I wake up, I can't see a thing."
"Eat anything strange?"
"No."
The doctor wants to take a CT scan of Jessie.
Chace interrupts, "She is pregnant. I'm afraid she can't do it."
Hearing this, Jessie touches her belly gratefully.
She has no idea how she makes it through these days. She thinks that she will lose her baby. She
doesn't have the nerve to ask Chace when she wakes up. But now she is happy to know the baby is
still here.
The doctor then says, "Her tests are fine. Maybe it's temporary blindness. Just wait and see after the
baby comes."
After the doctor leaves, Chace sits down in a chair and rubs his forehead, "Oh God! I should've leave
you here if I know this."
He is unwilling to give up, "Do you have any idea of your friend's name and where she lives?"
Jessie shakes her head.
She could tell him Lily's number, but Lily has already had a lot for her to do. She can't go to Lily’s right
now.
Jessie purses her dry lips and says, "We're here for a tour and we get lost. I can't remember her phone
number."
"Then passport? Where's your passport?"
"I lost it; I believe."
"Shit!" Chace scratches his hair helplessly, "You can't stay with me! I have a pile of to-do lists!"
"Oh!" He remembers something and screams, "You're pregnant. You must know the number of your
child's father."
Something moves in Jessie's eyes and she says in a low voice, "I can't remember, either."
"..."
Chace collapses in the chair helplessly. He is considering whether to send Jessie to the embassy.
From the corner of his eyes, he sees Jessie is wriggling, as if she is taking off her clothes. He jumps up
from his chair and steps back to the door.
"Hey, hey, what are you doing? I'm not interested in you." Chace says with a scrunched-up face, "It's
fine if you can't remember. We can work it out."
Jessie takes out something from her bra.
She is just checking if it is still here. Then she takes the necklace out and shows him, "Can I pay this to
you?"
Chace heaves a sigh of relief. "Okay, so you're just looking for something."
He thinks she is going to...
Chace takes the necklace.
The necklace in in the shape of a sunflower and it is made of gemstones.
"Holy shit, the limited edition of Van Cleef & Arpels!" As a man of romance, Chace knows a little about
luxuries.
The necklace in his hand is real and is worth a fortune!
And he can't recall but he knows someone has worn it once.
Jessie continues, "Please sell it for me. Then can you please find a place and hire a servant for me?
The cheapest one will do, and you can have the rest."
Chace asks curiously, "Since you and your friend are lost, I can send you to the embassy. They will
send you home. Why do you want a place here?"
"I ... don't want to go back." Jessie says, "And I can't go back like this."
Seeing Jessie so depressed, Chace thinks of something and asks tentatively, "Did you quarrel with
your boyfriend and he leaves you here? That's why you..."
"Yes, we've already broken up."
Chace knits his eyebrows and says furiously, "What a scumbag! One can never leave his pregnant
girlfriend alone. Shame on him!"
"You're a fine man." Jessie says, "Please help me."
Chace doesn't know what to say.
He wants to refuse, but seeing her so weak and blind, covered with bruises, he can't refuse her!
Well.
He helps her once. He can help her twice.
Chace sighs, and a crazy idea pops into his mind. And he gives her some odd looks.
"I'll help you with everything," Chace says carefully, "I can't take your necklace, but you have to do me
a favor."
Jessie asks, "What favor?"
Chace continues, "My mother forces me to find a girlfriend. If I don't, she will stop funding my company,
so..."
He added to let Jessie rest assured, "It's just in name only. Don't worry, I won't touch you. And if your
boyfriend wants to get you back, you have to tell me in advance so that my mother won't know. What
do you think?"
"OK." Jessie doesn't think much before she agrees.
Her quick answer catches Chace unprepared. He says, "Aren't you afraid that I'm a bad person?"
"If you are, you won't save me last night."
...
Chace puts the necklace in her hand, saying, "Take this. You might need it in future."
"It takes money to feed me and my baby. I can't take it back." Jessie stuffs the necklace back into his
hand and says sadly. "Besides, it's useless for me to keep it."
Her fingers are slender, soft, but cold, so cold that Chace trembles when he touches them.
How on earth does she manage to keep her baby?
...
Chace has a place in Country Y, so he asks someone to clean it before Jessie moves in.
Jessie has lost her passport. So, Chace has to make a fake ID for her. He asks her, "What's your
name? Or just think of one."
Jessie thinks for a moment and gives him a fake name, "Kelsie."
