Part 2 Chapter 6
Molly Morgan’s POV
“Can I get you some coffee?” Finn asked.
“Yes please,” I replied.
I decided to ignore the fact that he was treating my home as though it was his own house. Mainly because I was still tired after last night and I really needed that coffee and food. Lots of food, I felt like I could eat a small horse, well not literally.
Finn started to look through the cupboards for coffee. I could tell that he was expecting me to help him but I wasn’t going to. If he wanted to act as though he belonged in my house then the least he could do was make me coffee.
There is a chance that I was feeling a bit grumpy about Talen leaving and I was taking it out on Finn. I missed Talen already, I wanted him here in my arms not talking to his ex miles away and it was making me feel moody.
Finn started looking through the cupboards more frantically as he walked through the kitchen. He started slamming the doors to the cupboards in frustration. Grayson cringed.
“The cupboard to the left of the sink,” Grayson said.
Finn glanced at Grayson and smiled before walking over to the cupboard that Grayson had mentioned and resuming his search.
“So is that blond lycan your second mate?” Finn asked once he had finally found the coffee granules.
“Erm, yes. Why?” I asked.
“I guess it makes sense that your lycan would have a lycan as a mate. Both of my mates are werewolves so I didn’t even realise that one of them could have been a lycan,” Finn said.
He was preparing the coffee and he looked as though he was deep in thought. I sat down at the kitchen table opposite Finn’s mates, I couldn’t help noticing how similar Finn’s mates were to each other. I guess he had a type and it was petite blonde with curves.
Their hair was perfectly straightened and they were wearing clothes and makeup which wouldn’t look out of place on a runway model. Then there was me. I had just got out of the shower, my hair was still damp and I was wearing a comfortable pair of jeans and a baggy t-shirt. I didn’t even have any makeup on, I probably looked like a complete mess.
Grayson sat down beside me. He pulled my chair closer so he could wrap his arms around me and k**s me on the cheek. He didn’t even seem to notice the two women who were sitting opposite me looking so perfect. He probably has no idea who happy that made me feel but I will have to remember to show him just how much I appreciate him later.
“I saw you with him last night. I got the sense that he was quite powerful. Who is he?” Finn asked.
I don’t know what the strangest part of this was. It was strange enough that he had clearly been following me when I was on my date the other night but he also seemed to be very interested in Talen. Which was odd considering he told Grayson that he wanted to come here to get to know me better.
Maybe it was just the events of the last few weeks which were making me suspicious but there was something that didn’t seem right about Finn. Then again I remember saying the same thing about Talen a few days ago. Maybe this was all in my head.
“His name is Talen but I don’t know much about his family,” I replied, being deliberately evasive.
“So you haven’t met any of his family yet?” One of Finn’s mates said. I was starting to hate these perfect looking women more by the second.
“No. We only met each other a few days ago,” I replied.
“Oh,” One of them said.
“Finn is from the same pack as us. I have had a crush on him ever since we were young,” The other one said.
I don’t think I will ever be able to tell these two apart even if they ended up staying in my life for years. Maybe I could get them name tags or something.
“I think a lot of people have a crush on their future alpha. I had a crush on Grayson before I knew we were mates,” I admitted.
Fin glanced over at me as I was talking. He was still struggling to make coffee and the momentary distraction almost made him spill boiling water over himself. He recovered quickly and turned his full attention back to the coffee.
“You had a crush on me. I wish I knew that,” Grayson said, holding me tighter.
“Oh, Finn wasn’t the future alpha,” One of Finn’s mates said.
The other one threw her a look which made it clear that they weren’t meant to share that little bit of information with me. I was interested before but now I am really interested.
“So how come FInn is alpha now?” I asked.
“She doesn’t want to hear that story, it is long and boring,” Finn interjected.
“No, I want to get to know you better,” I replied, smiling innocently at Finn while I used his own words against him.
Finn brought the cups of coffee over to the table and set them down in front of us. He was grimacing as he sat down at the table and he had the far away look of someone trying to solve a complicated puzzle. I guess he was trying to think of a way to make this story sound better for our benefit, that didn’t bode well.
“My mom was the last alpha’s sister,” He started.
“I was never really a fan of the last alpha and his son was much worse. He was so spoiled and he treated the pack so badly. In the end I challenged him and took over the pack. See I told you it was boring,” Finn continued.
‘He’s lying,’ Grayson told me over mindlink.
‘How do you know?’ I asked.
‘His heart rate has suddenly increased and I can smell his fear,’ Grayson replied.
I would never have noticed it without him saying anything but now he had it was so obvious. I guess Finn was hoping that we wouldn’t notice, that we would be so relaxed that we wouldn’t pick up on the signs.
‘We need to find out what really happened,’ I said, even though I am sure that Grayson was thinking the same thing.
The fact is, if it is important enough for Finn to try to hide it from us then it was information we needed. I was starting to think that Finn had a different motive for coming here and I was sure that it had something to do with the lycans who attacked us.
“How did the pack feel about you taking over?” I asked. Not so much because I expected him to answer honestly, more because I thought keeping silent would alert him to our suspicions.
He thought for a few seconds about his answer, cradling his coffee in his hands. When he spoke again his voice was calm and relaxed. His heart rate had decreased and I couldn’t smell his fear as strongly anymore.
“They weren’t happy about it at first. They didn’t like the way it happened but they understand why it is necessary,” He said.
That part was true, although I don’t know exactly what he meant by it.
“I think we should get settled into our room,” One of Finn’s mates suggested.
“That is a good idea. Once we have settled in Molly can show us around the pack,” Finn agreed.
He drained the rest of his coffee then got to his feet and started walking towards the door. I guess he must have been in a hurry because he didn’t even wait for his mates to catch up with him before he walked out of the room. They finished their coffees as quickly as they could before setting off behind him at a run. I watched until they were all out of sight.
“That was interesting,” Grayson said.
“Interesting is one word for it,” I replied.
Grayson laughed as I took a large gulp of coffee.
“Now that is out of the way, how about those pancakes?” Grayson asked.
“Sorry but those pancakes will have to wait. Alpha Ward wants to see both of you in his office,” Ezra said. I guess he must have been waiting nearby for Finn and his mates to leave.
“I am so hungry though,” I complained.
“Well there are some chocolate muffins in the fridge but I am not sure June would be happy if you took them,” Ezra replied.
I cringed, I wasn’t sure that I was brave enough to take chocolate from June no matter how hungry I was. She would probably scratch my eyes out when she realised that I took them. Honestly, I was more scared of her than the lycans.
“It’s ok, I can wait,” I mumbled. I finished my coffee and got to my feet. Grayson gave me a sympathetic look as he crossed the space between us.
“I promise I will make it up to you,” He said as we made our way towards his dad’s office.
“I am sure you will,” I said in a seductive voice as I winked at him.NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
When we arrived Rich was on the phone while Grayson’s parents were on their laptops frantically typing away. My stepfather was the only one who looked up when we walked into the room.
“What have you found?” Grayson asked.
“Well for one thing, the Jenkins pack has been uncontactable for the last few months. Their pack is pretty remote and everyone just assumed that they were overrun by rogues but nobody knows for sure.” My stepfather replied.
“Could it just be that they were so busy after the takeover?” I asked.
I don’t even know why I was defending him. I thought his story was just as dodgy and Grayson’s family clearly did but I felt the urge to try to find the good in him. Maybe it is because he was hybrid like me but I didn’t want to think of him doing anything to hurt us.
“I don’t think so. His story seems like a complete fabrication but we are contacting the nearby packs to see what they know,” My stepfather replied.
“Ok, how can I help?” I asked.
