Denied by Destiny: Trapped in the Shadows of the Mate Bond

Chapter 101

Kaia POV

What did she want?

I had already been informed that she wasn't alone, had Than found me? Was this them coming to harvest

me...

I order for more warriors to be available, to form an outer ring around the alpha house grounds...this might not be a pack attack, but this was an attack on me for certain.

I'd found a new life, I'd travelled so far away yet my past has come to hunt me down.

I have a pack behind me now, a pack that would defend me with one given word. This isn't the Amber Desert pack, I couldn't be silenced any longer....I was stronger now, different. If they come for me, they will feel the wrath of my father's pack.

I open the front door, walking down the steps, every footstep heavy knowing what awaited me.

Samson remains by my side, his arm close enough to touch mine letting me know he would be by my side throughout this.

I had let his hand go, I was the Luna...a Luna didn't hold the hand of a Beta. I could do this alone. However, as soon as Father returns the first thing I will insist on is that he makes Samson a pack member, it's frustrating that I can't mind link him in a situation such as this. Before even looking her way, I can sense her there...she's standing with our warriors, closely being guarded. I could feel their apprehension through the pack bond, they didn't trust her...and they shouldn't.

I look up...looking into her eyes. It's odd seeing a person standing when you've only ever seen them lying practically dead on a hospital bed.

This person's very existence that has caused me so much heartache, is standing before me...smiling.

It's like a magnetic pull looking into her eyes, not the same as a mate bond..something else. Recognition.

"Kaia?" My name echoes as it leaves her lips. My eyes narrow in on her mouth, as the K of my name vibrates her bottom lip before she bites down on it, aware of my intense scrutiny.

A silence creates around us and I don't miss the gasps that surround us as pack members walks past. It does feel uncanny, like looking in a mirror.

She's the evil witch, the devil that haunts my dreams, so having her smiling at me looking sweet and innocent doesn't sit well with me. Doesn't register with my own version of events of what she, why they have done to me.

"Kaia..." Another voice calls my name as the person walks towards me, arms stretched out.

'Freya?" I take a step back, I thought it would be Than.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

'I'm so relieved you are okay..."

You are?" She reaches out to take my hand, I can feel the warrior's wolves bristling in the pack bond, vaiting to shift. They could feel something was wrong, my usual happy disposition was confused and

wary of our new visitors.

"Of course..." She responds before telling me that she had been worried, that I left so abruptly...without saying goodbye.

She's talking with such energy but all I can do is look at my mirror image....I can't take my eyes off her.

Freya returns to stand next to Alora, and I don't miss her taking Alora's hand in hers. Freya might well have worried about me but I'm not foolish enough to think the female bela's loyalty is with me, it is with the luna she now stands back next to. I take a step forward, Samson replicating my move.

"Not too close..." Samson growls in my ear...not missed by Alora whose smile diminishes and a frown forms across her face.

I was now standing face to face with Alora. She's not as pale as she once was but she's still not back to full health, has she really come here to ask me to help her...

It's like some kind of alternate universe and I'm spiralling down a portal. It's one thing to have her back there, a memory I could try and forget, but to be here in my new pack...standing before me is unreal.

"What do you want?" I mutter, she might have expected a different welcome being a luna, but tough shit. Here, I will treat her as I see fit.

"I found something, something I wanted to talk to you about."

"To me?" I scoff back wryly.

She pulls a piece of paper out of her bag and I know exactly what it will be...her medical chart. She's here to plead to me to help her.

I prepare myself for her forthcoming words, a mocking smile already forming upon my face....a smile that drops as soon as she utters words that I didn't expect.

Never in this lifetime.

"I found an adoption certificate..."
