Accidentally Married

Branch One Hundred and Four

Jessica was glad for once that the radio was on. There was a long awkward interaction between both of them from the house and Xavier had switched on the radio.

He just had to have the radio switched on because he was not sure what to say and it was better to drown out the noise. A love song began playing over the radio and blasting fully into the car.

Jessica cleared her throat and looked around her eyes darting around the car uncomfortably. She hated the situation. The lyrics of the song were very sensual and kind of demanding.

She could not help herself as her hand went to the radio controls and Xavier’s hand went there too. She felt the contact electrify her whole body as his hand recoiled and she looked out the window.

“You can change it to whatever suits you”

Jessica looked at him as his eyes were fixated on the road. Did he also feel what she just felt? That jolt of electricity that made her feel alive?

“It’s fine, You can change it since you wanted to do so earlier”

Xavier looked at her as she turned to the window by her side. She felt her hands get sweaty. The weather outside was neither hot nor cold or breezy. It was what one would call a perfect weather.

Xavier found his hand on the dial changing the station. The song had added extra tension to whatever it was they were feeling earlier. He felt so hot that he wanted to roll on his windows because he felt like the air conditioner was not working well.

“Oh so beautiful” Jessica exclaimed as they drove into the huge steel gates marked the Ramirez Estate.

Jessica was drawn in awe of the place. Everything looked magnificent and royal-like. She felt like she had entered a fairytale world.

“It is so beautiful,” she said as her eyes twinkled. Xavier threw occasional glances at her as she looked outside in awe.

“When we get in there, all Ethan wants to know is how much of a living couple we are,” Xavier said making Jessica turn her attention to him.

“I promise that I will try my best to ensure that you do not lose this deal,” Jessica said putting her hand over her chest.

“Are you feeling fine?” Xavier asked when he saw the flushed expression on her face.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

“I suddenly feel so nervous,” she said rubbing her palms together. She could not dare to rub them on her dress or else she might soil it before she gets to showcase it.

“Nervous?”

“I know that I have been doing this for two months. Playing the role of the perfect wife but I suddenly do not feel confident enough to win him over. I am afraid that I would screw over all your hard work” she said taking deep breaths.

She could feel the way her insides shook in fear. How was she to deceive a man who probably knew a lot in life? If she could not successfully hide it from Dawson how could she do so with Ethan?

“Just be yourself I am sure he would see how good a person you are”

“What?”

“No need to put any pressure on yourself and be yourself”

“Oh my Jessica,” Ethan said as he kissed the back of her hands when she came down to meet him.

“Good evening Mr. Ramirez,” Jessica said as she curtsied a little.

“Oh please I’m just Ethan,” he said patting her hand. “You are too beautiful, How did you end up with Xavier here?” he lowered his voice. “If I had met you first I would have asked you to be my wife for the second time”

“Oh my, I’m so flattered,” Jessica said with a flush screening up her face.

‘She must really blush for everything and everyone’ Xavier murmured within himself. He hated the interaction that went on in front of him. He knew that Ethan was capable of offering Jessica a better bargain than he had but he wanted to trust that a man the age of his father would not chase after his wife.

“Let’s go in,” he said finally dropping Jessica’s hand and turning to go in.

“You are supposed to be my loving wife not his” Xavier murmured into her ears as he caught up with her and walked side by side with her.

“What was I supposed to do when he kissed my hand and complimented me? Yank my hand away and not smile at him?” she asked as if he was high on something.

She did think he was probably high on some substance because if not he would not be complaining about her getting close to him. The contract was based on the interaction that evening.

“I thought you wanted me to give the best impression?” she asked confused at his stance at the moment.

“Just stay by my side,” he said when he could not find the right words to explain his emotions and whatever he felt at the moment.

“I would try my best, Mr. Delgado,” Jessica said shipping her hand into his. He froze but managed to thaw within a second.

They entered the house and were ushered into a waiting area.

“I am so glad to have you here. What do you want to have?” Ethan asked as he sat in one of the chairs.

“Water,” Jessica said. The interaction she has had all day has made her parched and very thirsty.

“Xavier, would you have anything?”

“I would have the same as my wife”

“Maria get them water and a cup of scotch for me” Maria nodded and walked away.

“I think scotch is better than water,” Ethan said with a little giggle at the end of the statement.

The woman came back with two glasses of water in a tray with a glass of scotch for Ethan.

“So let me hear how you two met?” Ethan said taking a sip from the cup.

“In front of the courthouse,” Jessica said without thinking.

They had no prior agreement as to how they would ever answer that question if they were asked. As Jessica opened her mouth to confess she could feel a story brewing in her mind. She was about to tell the biggest lie she had ever told.

“I met him when I went to my friend’s wedding”

“Oh wow that’s interesting,” Ethan said feeding off the gossip.

“And I fell in love with him”
