Diane hastily rushed to the hospital at once. As soon as she stepped foot in the lobby, Maria clutched
her tightly and said, “Someone cursed your father to death and stabbed him. Quick, you have to pay…”
Maria quickly dragged Diane toward the counter; Diane started to panic at the sound of her mother’s
words. “What happened? Who was it?”
“Who else can it be other than those guys from the gambling house? Dad didn’t pay up, so they
attacked him,” replied Emilia as she followed Maria. Meanwhile, Diane frowned and started walking
toward the counter on her own.
“How’s Dad? How much does he need?”
“He was just sent into the ER. The doctor says to pay 30,000 upfront, but I’m not too sure about the Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
specifics.”
“What?” Diane stopped in her tracks and looked at Maria helplessly.
Before she could say anything, Maria’s face fell and she said, “Your father got hurt all because of you,
Diane. Don’t tell me you can’t even fork out 30,000 for him.”
“I…” She was about to tell her that she couldn’t afford it when she was suddenly reminded of the credit
card in her handbag. Christopher had already sent her the password via text message when they left
the bureau; she could use the money from the card.
Since her father was in a critical state in the ER, she didn’t have time to reconsider; she quickly
answered, “Yes, I have it. Don’t panic, Mom.”
Maria finally calmed down a little after hearing her daughter’s reassurance. Since the counter didn’t
allow payments by card, Diane had to use the ATM outside. Emilia volunteered to follow, so the two of
them withdrew 30,000 from the ATM machine by the hospital’s entrance.
After handing in the money, they waited around for the surgery to end. At 7.00PM, George finally
emerged from the operating theater. His ruptured spleen had caused him to lose an excessive amount
of blood, so he had to be hospitalized for some time after the surgery. Therefore, he was sent to the
ICU immediately after.
The ICU didn’t allow visitors, so the doctor left after performing all the necessary check-ups on him.
Diane finally sighed in relief, whereas Emilia offered to head out to buy them dinner right then. Since
she had volunteered, Maria naturally agreed to let her go. However, they didn’t expect her to disappear
for more than an hour.
After some time, Maria was getting impatient—she couldn’t tend to George in the ICU anyway, so she’d
rather go home. Diane agreed after some thought and they decided to leave together. Just as they
were leaving the hospital, Emilia had returned and was heading inside; she was even carrying a
handful of shopping bags.
“Where did you go? Weren’t you buying dinner?” Diane stared wide-eyed at the beautiful paper bags
hanging around Emilia’s arms—she even recognized some of the logos as well-known luxurious
brands. What on earth was her sister doing?
“Here, this is for you. Thanks, Diane.” Just then, Emilia pulled out a credit card and gave it to her.
Almost immediately, Diane turned to stone at the sight of it. “When did you steal my card?”
It was none other than Christopher’s card; her sister must’ve seen the password when they were
withdrawing the money. Emilia, you rat. How could you…
As anger welled up in her chest, Emilia pouted unhappily.
“Since when have I stolen it? You make it sound so horrible. I’ve given it back to you already, haven’t I?
I’ll be starting my internship next month; as my sister, isn’t it normal for you to buy me some new
clothes as a gift? It wasn’t that much money anyway—I only used a little over 40,000. I already saw it
earlier, Diane—there’s several million in this card! Why’d you pretend to be poor if you’re that rich?”
“What?!” Maria exclaimed in utter surprise. Her eyes were practically popping out of their sockets as
she hastily plucked the credit card out of Emilia’s hand.
“This isn’t mine—it’s my friend’s.”
“What kind of friend would put that much money in your hands? You better explain right now, Diane.”
Maria’s face scrunched up in dissatisfaction after she failed to grab the card. Emilia turned to Diane
with an accusing look in her eyes as she mumbled, “Was Norman’s mother really telling the truth? Did
you really manage to seduce a rich man?”
“Shut up.” Diane was quivering with anger; she tightened her grip around the card and gave Emilia a
deep warning.
Meanwhile, in a private club in Weston City, a notification lit up Christopher’s phone screen.
He scoffed as his eyes glazed over the message. At the same time, he picked up his wine glass and
swirled it gently. As he leaned back against the expensive European-style leather cushion, his eyes
shifted to the man in a single seater sofa next to him. He said to him with a sarcastic tone, “It seems
that your worries are unnecessary, Denzel.”
